Features

The body design of the new model does not differ much from those of its “sisters”, it follows the same design of the “Z series”. It is a robust, resistant and at the same time light camera, the body is made of magnesium alloy created to protect the camera from dust and humidity.

The camera is easy to handle and the grip is comfortable and provides a secure and reliable hold.

The screen is a 3.2-inch LCD with a resolution of 1.04 million dots, and has touch functionality and is fully tiltable.

It also has an OLED-type electronic viewfinder with a resolution of 3.69 million dots, which has a color balance and 11-level manual.

The display is a 3.2-inch LCD with a resolution of 2.10 million dots and 100% image coverage. It also has touch functionality and the screen is fully articulated.

They also introduced an impressive electronic viewfinder, with a resolution of 5.76 million dots. It offers superb vision response and clarity. They have used a 120 fps high-resolution UXGA display, which allows for impressive and realistic results. The viewfinder is fully customizable, as well as the simulation mode allows you to preview the depth of field, white balance and image brightness.

It is also worth mentioning its convenience, since its light weight and small size allow a greater “liberation” for the user.

Functions

The sensor is a CMOS type with a resolution of 24.93 megapixels, coupled with an Expeed 6 image processor, this combination provides amazing image quality (24.93 mp), high sensitivity, as well as fast performance.

It also has a sensitivity range of ISO 100 to 51,200 (expandable to ISO 102,400), which allows for either shooting or video recording in any lighting conditions, as well as adequate magnification for very low light conditions. This will result in clean images with almost no noise, as well as a wide dynamic range.

In terms of speed, it allows you to take pictures at a speed of 4.5 fps (shots per second).

On the other hand, the camera features a 5-axis image stabilizer, which allows compensation of up to 5 steps, (which means that it allows shooting at shutter speeds up to five steps slower than in other conditions).

And finally, it has extensive connectivity options, either via Bluetooth, via WiFi, HDMI (Type-C) or USB (Type-C), as well as via Nikon’s Snap Bridge app for simple image and video transfer. The battery is a rechargeable lithium-ion EN-EL15c battery, which allows a battery life of approximately 470 shots per charge (390 with the viewfinder), and can also be charged via USB.

Video

The camera allows the recording of cinematic scenes as it has a 4K Ultra HD resolution (up to 30 fps) as well as Full HD (up to 60 fps). It can also be combined with NIKKOR Z-series full-frame lenses, allowing you to enjoy a wide depth of field.

Approach

As for focusing, they use the hybrid autofocus AF system, which consists of 273 points, either by phase detection or contrast detection. This allows both subjects and animals to be kept in focus at all times, regardless of the situation they are in. It also follows the “Eye Detection AF” tracking system, which keeps the eye in focus at all times.

Opinion about the Nikon z5

To get started in the world of professional photography and experience what a Full Frame camera is, it is a good choice. The most outstanding feature of this one is the quality-price ratio, since it offers numerous services for an affordable price. On the other hand, taking as an example the comparison with its big brother, the Nikon Z6, there are not many remarkable differences, they simply removed some small options such as the battery life, the speed of the shots per second and little else. Therefore, the Nikon Z5 is worth it, for a price difference of approximately 400 €, you have a cheaper camera and very similar to its “big sister”, highlighting also that it has a greater durability and is lighter than the Z6.
