The Canon 90D is an advanced camera that was released to replace the 80D without major changes. Fast and accurate Dual Pixel AF in dark scenes, especially when shooting with the screen. It has a 10 fps shutter, far superior to its predecessor, to be able to shoot those moving images more smoothly. With say 32.5 mpx, 4K at 30 fps, autonomy, color and low noise, it should be reason for you to be interested in this Canon model.

Construction and Ergonomics of the Canon 90D

The 90D follows the Canon reflex line, having a fairly robust body that is very ergonomic in the hand. This line of advanced cameras of the brand, has as a differentiator with the lower cameras a second front screen that helps us to see what ISO aperture and speed we are using in the camera without the need to see it on the front screen. In this 90D we also have a joystick which helps us to manage the focus inside the camera, making it easier to get a sharp picture. It also incorporates a folding screen so that our back suffers as little as possible when working on a tripod or when we are going to use the camera from extreme angles.

Focus of the Canon 90D

In terms of focusing there is no improvement over previous versions, i.e. the 80D. But thanks to getting that joystick that allows us to facilitate the mobility of the focus point and that burst of up to 10 photos per second, which puts it on par with the best Canon cameras. They make this model a safe buy for the action or sports photographer, who needs to have an edge over the mid-range or amateur cameras of the brand.

Quality and performance of the Canon 90D

Another important improvement of this Camera is the resolution we have in the image, we go from having 24 megapixels to almost 33, this is so, because Canon believes and correctly that the user or action photographer always needs the possibility to crop his image, since it is very difficult to predict the movement of his lens. This new 33 megapixel sensor gives us quality at high ISOs quite good and in general those colors that we like so much from the Canon brand, especially if we talk about skin tone.

Is the Canon 90D good for astrophotography?

The Canon 90D is a good camera for night photography although it is not specifically for night photography, remember that cameras with a larger sensor such as full frame cameras have a better ISO quality ratio, which makes them more suitable for astrophotography. On the other hand, thanks to having an APSC sensor and having a crop, it helps us to have a longer focal length which comes in handy to get pictures of the moon or some distant planets.

Dynamic Range of the 90D

The dynamic range of the Canon 90D is 13 light steps, which would put it behind the Sony with 14. This is normal for Canon sensors, which usually have a good dynamic range, although still far from what Sony offers.

Canon 90D

Canon 90D review from TuCamara.net

Many users believe that this new 90 will replace the future Canon 7D Mark III, especially if we talk about the speed at which it is possible to shoot with this camera and the resolution of the image. We are talking about a camera that is on the borderline of advanced cameras towards professional cameras. It should be remembered that the 7D range is a professional camera and that the 90D is supposed to be advanced. But looking at the differences between the two we can safely say that this 90D is above the Canon 7D Mark II. So, it is a very good choice for the action or sports photographer who doesn’t want to spend that much money on a full frame camera.
