Construction and Ergonomics of the Canon R5
This new range of Canon cameras continues the line of the R series, with a more than reasonable resemblance to that of professional SLRs, but noticeably smaller and lighter. Something that has evolved from the R version is the elimination of the touch display that was used to change some settings and that few people used at the time. In exchange we have been given back the roulette that we like so much to select the focus point and be faster when preparing the photograph. As for the ergonomics of the camera, the Canon R5, like all the previous ones, has a spectacular grip, especially because of its large battery that increases the size of the camera’s grip and thus gives us more stability. Its sealed body allows us to work with it in incredibly difficult conditions such as rain or snow.
Focus of the Canon R5
Focusing is much improved over the previous Canon EOS R, and is on a par with the Canon 1DX mark III, one of the best on the market. Due to the focusing technology of the Canon R5, an improved version of the Dual Pixel, we can say that it is still not up to the level of continuous tracking especially of faces and especially the eye that have for example the Sony, although the difference is quite short if we talk about continuous focusing of the entire photographic situation.
Quality and performance of the Canon R5
Its 45mpx offers us enough quality to be able to crop if necessary or to obtain a very large image. One of the things Canon excels in, such as the colorimetry of the image, makes the faces look more realistic thanks to its balance in nuance. The performance of this machine is out of the question if we talk specifically about photography, it allows us to work smoothly obtained images in burst without losing a second in the process, and this is intensified if we work with the CFExpress cards that brings this Canon R5.
Canon R5 video
Perhaps this is the point where we can appreciate a greater evolution having as reference the resolution, as we know Canon is not the brand that gives more tools to the videographer but its 8k at 30p, have left many people with their mouths open. So if we talk about pure quality, this camera is far above the rest, besides it also allows video recording in 4 to 120p which is perhaps even more surprising than the inclusion of 4k. Thanks to these we will be able to perform slow cameras in a quality that we did not have in mind before.
It seems that having a camera that is so well sealed has caused some alarms due to overheating, especially when recording in maximum quality either 8k or 4k at 120p. Canon is working on several updates that will allow the camera to work longer and not suffer from the overheating warning on an ongoing basis.

Opinion
The Canon R5 is a camera that, as Canon did with the 5D, comes to revolutionize the photographic market, especially for those who want to take video and photos at the same time. If this is your case and you need such a high recording quality, as well as a resolution of 45mpx, then this camera will be your new purchase, however if on the contrary you need something less but having the same focus and the same quality, you can opt for its little sister the Canon EOS R6.
